Day One: Body and Breath
How you stand impacts how you breathe and how you breathe
determines how you stand. The connection between breath and body
will be explored through various voice and movement methodologies.
Participants will leave with a better understanding of how breath
and body are connected, how to support sound with breath, awareness
of habitual tension and a freer breathing process.

Day Two: Phonation and Resonation
Coming onto sound takes thought into action. Resonation, through
vibration allows sound to travel and the actor to be heard.
This day will focus on how the three ways the vocal folds come
together with breath to create sound and what qualities those
sounds communicate. Balance of resonation between throat, mouth
and nose cavities will be explored sonically and physically.
Students will leave with an understanding of how to create a
more resonant voice and an ability to come onto sound consciously
instead of habitually.
Day Three: Variation, Articulation and Speech
This day will build on the previous days by exploring how rhythm,
pitch, volume and articulation create meaning with language.
Various qualities of voice will be explored through manipulation
of the vocal tract, singing, movement and improvisation. Students
will increase vocal range, sharpen articulation and begin to
understand how language is embodied.
Day Four: Language
Using classical and contemporary text, participants will learn
techniques that make the transition from voice and speech work
into “in the moment” vocal performance. Areas explored will be
how breath informs language, text analysis, phrasing, and partnering.
The participants will have tools that when combined with the earlier
work will enable them to become more flexible and expressive in
delivering scripted language.
